Before you file your tax return, estimate first: three (real) good reasons
Before you file your tax return, estimate first. Three good reasons to know what you'll get back (or owe) before you submit. Free on taxx.lu.
Waiting for the tax assessment to find out the figure is one way. Knowing in advance, in a few minutes, is another.
Everyone files. Almost no one estimates first. But knowing what you'll owe or get back before you hit submit changes everything: your budget, your strategy, sometimes even your decision to file at all. Three concrete reasons to run the numbers first.
1. So you don't fall off your chair when the assessment lands
The tax assessment arrives. Either the ACD refunds you, or it asks for an extra payment. Without an estimate, it's a complete surprise.
With an estimate, you know what's coming. You can plan ahead for a possible payment, or work out what you'll do with your refund (pay off a loan, book a holiday, top up your 111bis private pension, up to you).
2. To check whether filing is actually worth it
In Luxembourg, filing isn't always mandatory. If it's optional in your case (often through the annual statement, form 163), an estimate tells you in minutes whether you'll come out ahead. Or whether it makes no difference.
The verdict comes in numbers, not guesses.
A ballpark figure
On average, our clients get €2,352 back through their tax return. No promises, just an average. Yours depends on your situation, your deductions, and everything you can claim.
3. To compare your estimate against the assessment you receive
Even the ACD can get it wrong. It's your right to check.
Once your return is filed, the ACD calculates your tax and sends the assessment back. Having a reliable estimate to hand lets you put the two side by side.
If something doesn't match, you'll spot it straight away. You can then request a review and assert your rights within the deadlines.
